NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
Murfreesboro police arrested a local mother last week on charges she assisted her daughter in prostitution.
Officers visited her home on North Academy Street after a being asked to do a welfare check on the residence.
Police said Dixon was taking care of a friend's four children who live in Memphis, along with her own 17 year old daughter.
"When officers arrived, they discovered that the kids were living in unsanitary conditions and notified DCS," said Murfreesboro police spokesperson Kyle Evans.
According to the arrest report, Vickie Dixon, 39, aided her teenage daughter as a prostitute and taught her how to talk to men to get more money.
She posted ads on the Web site Backpage.com, police said, and the alleged sexual encounters would take place outside the home.
The teenager told police her mother would take money from the men and split it with her for sex.
During an interview with detectives last Thursday, Dixon gave conflicting statements.
"Investigators learned that Vickie Dixon was promoting a house for prostitution," said Evans.
He continued, "Detectives took Dixon to the interview room here at the police department and during the interview, she took out a pen she was using to write her statement and tried to stab herself in the neck. When the officers tried to help her, she turned the pen on them, trying to stab them and threatening to kill them."
Dixon faces charges of promoting prostitution of a minor and two counts of aggravated assault.
A September 21 court date has been set.
The Tennessee Department of Children's Services is investigating.
