Description
A Memphis woman has been indicted on felony sex trafficking charges after authorities say she took a 14-year-old girl to motels to have sex with customers who responded to online ads.
Aasia Hudson, 26, was indicted by a grand jury on two counts of trafficking for commercial sex acts involving a child under 15 and promoting travel for purposes of prostitution, Shelby County District Attorney General Amy Weirich said in a release Thursday.
The Memphis Police Department’s Organized Crime Unit/VICE Team 3 arrested Hudson on March 31, 2016, at a motel in the 2900 block of South Third, where a "date" with the teen had been arranged on the Backpage website.
Investigators said Hudson drove the juvenile to hotels to have sex with men for money and that in return Hudson received gas money and hotel fees from the victim. The victim was placed in the care of juvenile authorities after the woman’s arrest.
The case is being handled by Assistant District Attorney General Lessie Rainey of the DA’s Special Victims Unit, which prosecutes cases of child sexual abuse and severe physical abuse of child victims, rape and aggravated rape of adult victims, and abuse of elderly and vulnerable adults.
The unit reviews child victim cases with Shelby County’s multi-agency Child Protection Investigative Team.
